Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the leader of the majority, said he anticipated that the Speaker of Parliament would uphold the Supreme Court’s decision to postpone the implementation of yesterday’s decision.
This comes after Alban Bagbin was ordered to halt his ruling that vacated four parliamentary seats by the supreme court today.
Thus, the four Members of Parliament have been given instructions by Parliament to be recognized and given full authority to represent their constituents and perform their official duties.

He conveyed his happiness with the ruling to the journalists outside the court.
“The court has made a determination about the subject and directed the parties to submit the required paperwork for the matter’s ultimate resolution. That concludes it. Therefore, we anticipate that our colleagues and everyone else concerned in this issue—including the right honorable speaker—will respect the law. We don’t harbor any animosity toward any individual. The law is ours,” he declared.
Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) submitted an application to stay the Speaker’s decision, requesting the intervention of the Court to prevent the implementation of the verdict that would have affected three of their colleagues and one member from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaker Bagbin and Parliament were not joined in the case because the application was submitted ex parte.
As a result, the Court was able to consider the NPP MPs’ plea without waiting for the Speaker or other parliamentary authority to intervene or respond.
The NPP MPs were forewarned by the Effutu MP to stay focused, as the opposition party is making every effort to thwart the party’s bid for election in 2024.
“Let’s put our all into our hard effort. The work done by President Akufo-Addo is excellent. Our government is far from ideal, of course, but we still have elections to win. This NDC behavior will end if we put in our all and triumph greatly,” he said.
Justices Mariama Owusu, Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Ernest Yao Gaewu, and Yaw Darko Asare were among the other panelists who jointly delivered the verdict to stay the Speaker’s action.
